Course Description

Learn how to design and plant a rain garden for your home. Discover how to combine water-loving perennials and shrubs to create eco-gorgeous rain gardens that help manage water on your property and seamlessly blend into traditional landscapes. Walk away lists of plants and plant combinations and strategies for stormwater management in the home landscape.

Vallari Talapatra, landscapes architect, Eco-scapes

Vallari Talapatra has been teaching at the Arboretum since 1994. She has taught Landscape Design classes and conducted workshops on a variety of topics, such as Woodland Gardens, Meditative Gardens, Curb Appeal, etc. She is the president of Eco Scapes, inc. since 2000, and has ten national publications that featured her projects. Course Details

  • Notes: Held indoors. Limit 18
  • Supplies: Please bring pictures of the area of your yard where you want to place your rain garden, the dimensions of the area, and pencils for writing and sketching. Note the hours of sun or shade (during summer months) and whether moisture is constant or dependent on rainfall and irrigation.
