In celebration of the Chicago region’s trees, The Morton Arboretum and Openlands are partnering to launch Tree-mendous Tree Stories, an online collection of curated stories highlighting people’s connections to trees.
The Illinois Tollway and The Morton Arboretum have partnered to plant 58,000 trees along highways and develop new knowledge through scientific research about tree planting and care in roadside conditions.
Chicago and its seven surrounding counties have more than 150 million trees – trees that make our communities healthier, more sustainable and more beautiful. Yet Chicago-area trees are under threat, with one of every five parkway trees likely to soon be destroyed by the emerald ash borer beetle.
Just as they need water and sunlight, trees need each and every one of us to thrive. This Arbor Day, The Morton Arboretum is bringing attention to the actions Chicagoans can take in their daily lives to care for trees–so crucial to the future of our city and region–with two public events taking place in Chicago.
