The Morton Arboretum invites furry friends and their owners to explore 16 scenic miles of hiking trails, woodlands and prairies during the Tails on the Trails event on Saturday, September 10.

Dogs are welcome at the Arboretum from 7 a.m. to sunset.  From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.,Tails on the Trails will feature dog-friendly activities, including an agility course and demonstrations led by an expert dog trainer. Additionally, a pet expo will take place along Meadow Lake.

The day’s events will include:

  • Demonstrations on pet health and fitness, obedience and agility
  • Games for canines and their companions, including the popular peanut butter licking contest
  • Pet products and services for sale at the pet expo
  • The opportunity to meet dogs available for adoption and learn more about volunteering with local animal shelters

“Arboretum visitors love this event because it allows the whole family to explore our wooded trails and take part in fun and interactive events geared to dogs and their people," said Gina Steele, special events coordinator at the Arboretum. “This event is a great chance for owners to learn more about taking care of their pets while having some outdoor fun."

The event costs $5 per dog plus regular admission fees for owners, with a portion of the proceeds going to local animal shelters.  Each dog will receive an Arboretum bandana with paid admission.

Dogs must have current vaccinations, get along with other animals, and be on leash at all times while on the Arboretum property. Dogs must stay on marked trails and will not be allowed inside buildings, the Children’s Garden or the Maze Garden.
