Current volunteer opportunities

 

Bike Safety Patrol Volunteers (May–October)

Volunteers are sought to "ride the roads" and provide information and assistance to individuals and families biking at the Arboretum. Weekends, Wednesdays, and Bike Nights are especially busy times. Experienced bikers with their own bicycle and safety equipment, which are available for a minimum of two shifts per month, may apply for this assignment.  Flexible self-scheduling is available. Trail Patrol Volunteers (Evenings and Weekends shift available)

Sixteen miles of trails provide lots of options for exploring the Arboretum in all seasons. Trail Safety Patrol volunteers walk the trails, interact with visitors, give directions and information, and provide a visible and friendly presence for all Arboretum hikers. Trail Safety Patrol volunteers commit to volunteering a minimum of two shifts each month. Requirements include physical stamina, ability to walk on uneven terrain throughout their shift, attendance at safety and First Aid training (provided) and use of a communications radio. Flexible self-scheduling available. Volunteers must be 18+ years old. The season runs all year - weather permitting.  Click here for more information.

 

Special Events Volunteers: (October 2019- January 2020)

Seasonal Special Events may include indoor or outdoor exhibits-- Fall Color 5K Run, Fall Color Festival, Illumination, Winter events, Champion of Trees 10K Run, Arbor Day Weekend Plant Sale, Ginkgo Restaurant events, and Arboretum Store promotional events. We are seeking volunteers who are 18+ years old and can make a one-year commitment to supporting the Arboretum's seasonal special events. Click here for more information.


Natural Area Volunteers (April–October)

Invasive Plants grow and spread rapidly, crowding out native trees, wildflowers, and plants we want to establish in collections areas. Volunteers in good physical condition, able to navigate uneven terrain, and work in all weather conditions are welcome to join one of our work groups below. Volunteers must be 18+ years old and willing to make a weekly commitment from April- October. Available Natural Area workdays for new volunteers:


  • Prairie Restoration Experiment- Wednesday or Thursday- 8:30-11:30 am

  • Saturday Workdays - 1st & 2nd Saturday of each month - 8:30-11:30 am
